I build things to figure out
how they work.

Farhana Rahman — software engineer & web developer, final-year Computer Science & Engineering at North South University. I build useful web and application software — and care about animal welfare and women in engineering along the way.

I'm a final-year Computer Science student at NSU, and mostly I build things — web apps, small tools, this site — usually because I wanted something to exist and had to learn the missing parts to make it.

My focus is software engineering and web development: full-stack applications, useful tools, and products people actually use. I'm getting properly good at modern React, Next.js and TypeScript, and I care about writing code other people can read.

Two things I keep coming back to. One is building technology for animal welfare — reuniting lost pets, helping shelters. The other is supporting women in engineering: I chair the IEEE NSU Student Branch Women in Engineering Affinity Group, where I've learned that organizing people is its own kind of systems problem.

My degree gave me a solid grounding in algorithms, systems, and a bit of AI/ML along the way. Useful context — but building software is the part I want to do.

I'm not going to pretend I'm a senior engineer. I'm an emerging one — building, shipping, and learning every single day.

Repositories, experiments, and a couple of things still very much under construction. Status labels are honest.

PROJECT_001building

$ Cat Lost & Found

A platform for reuniting lost cats with their people — post a sighting, post a missing cat, match on location and description. Animal welfare is the reason this one exists; it's not a portfolio filler.

stack— // TBD
  • #location-based matching between 'lost' and 'found' reports
  • #photo-first listings so people can recognise a cat fast
  • #the problem I most want to get right

$ Animal Adoption Website

A site for listing animals up for adoption and handling adoption requests end to end — browsing, filtering, submitting, and an admin side to review them. A full CRUD app built start to finish.

stack— // TBD
  • #listings with filtering
  • #adoption request flow + basic admin review

PROJECT_003shipped

$ NSU CGPA Calculator

A CGPA calculator built for how NSU actually grades — retake rules, credit weighting, the works. Made it because every existing option was a spreadsheet.

$ farhanacodes.xyz

This site. A keyboard-navigable workstation you can type commands into and read like a config file — also how I learned the Next.js App Router properly.

$ Bangla SLM

A small language model I'm building from the architecture up — every block written by hand — to actually understand how modern transformers work instead of importing a black box.

Component Developer @ Skelementor

TBD · Remote

Built reusable, responsive page components and sections for client sites with Elementor / WordPress — translating designs into maintainable building blocks rather than one-off pages.

  • turned designs into pixel-accurate, responsive layouts
  • built reusable component templates used across projects
  • worked to a component-system mindset, not page-by-page styling
04leadership

leadership

Running a community is its own kind of engineering — people, process, and a lot of coordination.

Chair

IEEE NSU Student Branch — Women in Engineering Affinity Group

TBD · North South University

Lead the affinity group end to end — setting direction, building the team, and running the programs that support women in engineering and technology on campus.

  • lead and coordinate the group's direction and day-to-day operations
  • build community for women in engineering and technology at NSU
  • plan and run initiatives, events, workshops and technical programs
  • recruit, organise and delegate across teams of volunteers
  • create opportunities for students getting into technology
  • work with speakers, sponsors, and the wider IEEE NSU branch
